On average, it costs hundreds for a shop to fix a part that another mechanic fixed without tools in seconds.
If you own a car, you understand how expensive a repair bill can be sometimes. A woman took her 2015 Toyota Camry took her car to TikToker and mechanic Mejicar (@Menjicar) for a second opinion.
She told him the only window that would roll down was the driver’s side. All other windows wouldn’t roll down when she activated the windows from her control panel, and the window lock wasn’t on. When sitting in the passenger’s seats, though, they would roll down.
The last shop told her she needed a new regulator switch, which after parts and labor, can cost between $400 to $600.
Menjicar knew exactly what to do, and he didn’t have a single tool.
All he needed were the window buttons
“All this needs is to be reprogrammed,” he said from the passenger’s seat. “All you do is push the switch and roll the window all the way up, and hold it for a few seconds. Then do the same after rolling the window all the way down.”
He told his TikTok followers the simple action would teach the computer where the highest height the window can go and the lowest.
“What this basically does is help the computer relearn this whole window, and it’s very common in Toyotas and Lexuses,” he said.
After spending just a few seconds in the car, all four windows were controllable from the driver’s side control panel.
“See, now they work perfectly fine,” he said.
Viewers were surprised by how easy it was
Menjicar’s viewers couldn’t help by be shocked by how much money he helped that woman save. Someone else noted they paid a mechanic to fix the same issue multiple times.
“I can only imagine how many times I got scammed because I paid for the whole window thing,” they wrote.
Another said the same trick works on Fords, too. As well as another popular brand.
“Subaru has this too, I found that out when I bought my car and the windows weren’t working. I googled it, did this trick, and two minutes later they were working again,” they said.
Someone else said their mom was charged almost $1,000 to fix their car.
“Mechanics wanted to charge my mom $700 to take apart and fix her window getting stuck. I went to the junkyard to get her a new switch assembly and it was fixed,” they wrote.
