Friday turned out to be a busier day than usual for the staff at Stray Rescue of St. Louis. Neighbors living in the outskirts of the city had reported seeing a puppy running around the area. They noticed how she had lost most of her coat, and her skin condition had been increasingly getting worse.
Word about the puppy’s deteriorating health reached Donna Lochmann, the soft-spoken hero for so many stray dogs needing help, and along with her team, the chief life saving officer for Stray Rescue of St. Louis headed out to save the eight-month-old puppy.

And there she was. Her skin felt like fire. She had been growing up fending for herself, but as can be seen from the video and the following photos, what a friendly and sweet puppy she is. She truly broke everyone’s heart, but her life was about to begin as a puppy’s life should begin.

Now Devonna enjoyed the treats and made no fuss about Donna holding her in her arms. On the way back to the Jeep to return to the rescue for veterinary care, and walking across the property, two more little heads popped up!

they were living in an outdoor pool with fencing around it. Thankfully the owner admitted to being in over her head and agreed to let us take them too.
Finally, with all three puppies comfortably settled in the Jeep and the ride back to St. Louis, the first puppy, Devonna, sat in the passenger seat. She had been quietly drifting off to sleep, but would not lie down and make herself comfortable. More than likely, it was because of how red and inflamed her skin was – there had been no way to get settled feeling so itchy and in so much pain.
