There were no accidents associated with the man’s actions.
Everyone should know that driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol is never a sound decision. Unfortunately, many drivers still make the destructive decision to do so despite the number of car wrecks that result. Recently, one man in Connecticut was found passed out in his car, and now he has a DUI charge and a host of other legal hurdles following the traffic stop.
Not only was he driving under the influence, but he fell asleep behind the wheel
Many signs would make an officer think a person is driving under the influence during a traffic stop. Naturally, one of the biggest is the police approaching a vehicle and finding the driver asleep. According to WTNH, this happened recently in Stonington, Connecticut. Notably, the state police say this happened on the shoulder of I-95 at around 3 a.m. on February 6th.
Specifically, the officer on the scene approached the vehicle to ensure that there was no emergency in progress. Upon shining a flashlight through the window, a 25-year-old man woke up and began to “paw like a cat” at the officer and asked that they turn off the light. This is a surefire sign of driving under the influence despite the car being off.
Later, the man submitted to standardized field sobriety testing, which is the case with most people the police suspect of driving while under the influence. The report says he not only failed the testing, but his driver’s license was suspended for a previous DUI charge. Because of this, he was also charged with illegal operation of a motor vehicle under suspension. They later released him on a $1,000 bond. The good thing is that he didn’t cause any car wrecks.
