A South Bay resident has been arrested for allegedly sending drug-laced mail to an inmate, officials said Friday.

Destiny Gomez, 27, was taken into custody after deputies served a warrant at her Chula Vista home, according to a news release from the San Diego County Sheriff’s Office.

During the search, detectives spotted “materials Gomez used to produce the drug-laced mail, including methamphetamine, in plain sight.”

The investigation began in January when deputies assigned to a facility that processes materials sent to jails identified mail that allegedly had been “soaked with narcotics.” It was addressed to Herminio Cendejas, an inmate at George Bailey Detention Facility in Otay Mesa.

Gomez was booked on suspicion of mailing a controlled substance to a jail.
