Ram driver regrets phase 3 tuning after his truck experienced engine failure

One recent story of a man doing a phase 3 tuning on his Ram TRX shows how car modifications can cause expensive damage.

Tuning a vehicle may not be the best idea in the long run.

There are several car modifications for all types of vehicles. Some are more practical than others, but many drivers find changes such as car tuning valuable. However, people should know that some mods for cars can have adverse effects on their beloved vehicles. Auto mechanics often warn against certain vehicle upgrades for this reason. Now, one man has a newer Ram truck with a blown engine thanks to a phase 3 upgrade.

Car modifications can easily backfire and cause expensive repairs with auto mechanics

Let’s be clear- not all car modifications are destructive. In fact, it can be easily argued that none are inherently problematic, even though there are many horror stories. According to Torque News, a man named Steven McKeehan recently took to a Ram TRX Facebook group to share what happened after having a phase 3 added to his truck. Of course, the phase 3 engine upgrade is one of the most controversial mods for cars.

The man went on to explain that his 2021 Ram TRX had 40,000 miles on the odometer. Regarding the car modifications, he spent around $10,000 for the phase 3 engine upgrade. Sadly, his post reads, “My engine blew within a few days. The first time I stepped on it, my engine blows!” He then asked if it was his fault or if he should blame the auto mechanics who installed the phase 3 modification.

Regarding fault, that’s a conversation that has far too many factors to go into. However, it’s essential to consider the truck itself. According to Edmunds, the 2021 Ram TRX has an impressive supercharged 6.2-liter V8 that makes 702 horsepower. Based on various road tests, this truck gets from 0 to 60 miles per hour in only 3.7 seconds. Because of this, without car modifications, it’s already a mind-blowingly capable truck.

Still, there’s nothing wrong with wanting more. Phase 3 car tuning is designed to add significantly more power to a vehicle. The problem is that this increased power in a frame not designed to handle it can cause much more wear and tear than usual. Many people may opt for phase 3 tuning and not experience engine failure, but this man’s story shows that it’s extremely possible.
