An eight-year-old Husky, found as a stray along the Lynchburg Trail system, arrived at the Lynchburg Humane Society in Virginia in incredible pain. One eye was ruptured, and the other had shrunk and clouded over. The dog needed a double enucleation, and at the time it was not known how long it would take him to adjust to total blindness or how he would even cope with the disability.
He was named Apollo.
In late December, Apollo underwent surgery, and as expected, had some difficulty adjusting to having lost one of his senses. He wore a cone for his own protection as he learned to maneuver safely around his surroundings, but his trust in the staff helping him to find his way helped with his progress.
Fortunately, it had been on of the rescue organization’s amazing foster parents who stepped up and offered the dog time to adjust to his new life. No one knew the amount of time Apollo would take, but his fosters were amazed and shared how well Apollo had been doing.

… His new family saw the update and he reminded them so much of their recently passed Husky, they were immediately pulled to meet him.
It was love at first sight (or scent for Apollo) to say the least! They shared with us they researched for hours to ensure they knew all about blind dog care, and how to set them up for success. We know he is in the best hands!
Apollo has the best new home any dog could wish for, and his adoptive parents are in love. Many thanks to all of the heroes who helped Apollo find his best life.
