Drunk driver has 40 years in prison after a deadly 140 mph car accident in Panama City, FL


A man in Florida was just sentenced to 40 years in prison after causing a deadly car wreck due to driving under the influence.

This happened in 2022 and he almost had a life sentence.

Everyone knows that driving while under the influence often leads to more than a DUI charge. They cause numerous deadly car wrecks each year and have other drastic consequences. Sadly, this happened recently when a man who was actively drinking while driving crashed into another vehicle, leading to multiple tragic deaths. He’s now facing a hefty sentence. 

Driving under the influence is one of the biggest obstacles to public safety

Driving under the influence can lead to some serious time in prison. According to The Miami Herald, a 33-year-old man has just been sentenced to 40 years in prison. This comes after he pleaded no contest to two counts of DUI manslaughter and DUI with serious bodily injury stemming from a deadly car accident that happened in 2022. The sentencing occurred on February 4th.

The report says that the accident in question took place on May 10th, 2022, after the man accused of driving under the influence went to a bar around 5 p.m. Notably, this was seen on surveillance footage, and he left the establishment about three hours later. At the time, he is said to have had a “glass alcoholic beverage.” He then began driving while under the influence and reached 130 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone. Sadly, this is when he crashed into the rear of a Buick Enclave. His car then rolled away, hit a fence, and caught fire. The victims’ car then hit a utility pole. 

As mentioned, this is one of the many car wrecks caused by driving while under the influence that lead to fatalities. Two adult women were produced dead. There was also a 9-year-old girl present in the vehicle, and she was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The two adult women were her grandmother and great-grandmother. Regarding the driver and his DUI charge, he had a Blood Alcohol Content of .099. It should be noted that he was facing life, but the family of the victims approved a plea deal with a lighter sentence.
