Authorities have arrested multiple individuals in connection with criminal activity at a homeless encampment in East County.
On Tuesday, Feb. 4, at 2 p.m., a small fire ignited at an encampment near Willow Glen Drive in unincorporated El Cajon. Firefighters quickly contained the blaze, and no injuries or property damage were reported.
The Sheriff’s Homeless Assistance Resource Team (HART) has conducted several outreach operations at this site over the past month, offering services and support to those experiencing homelessness. However, reports of ongoing criminal activity prompted further law enforcement action.
On Wednesday, Feb 5, Sheriff’s HART carried out an enforcement operation at the encampment, resulting in multiple arrests. Charges included drug-related offenses, outstanding misdemeanor warrants, and identity theft.
The encampment has since been cleared, and clean-up efforts are in progress.
The San Diego County Sheriff’s Office reports it remains committed to a balanced approach that combines outreach with enforcement, working alongside community partners to connect individuals in need with services while ensuring public safety.
