Man has prison time after using identity fraud to buy a Dodge in Fairfield, CA

A man has four years in prison for identity fraud after using someone else's social security number to buy a Dodge Charger.

He has been in jail since November after failing to appear.

Many people look for the best cars to buy each year. For some, this involves a shiny new Dodge Challenger with a Hellcat engine. Still, acquiring this car doesn’t include identity fraud as it does with one man in California who the court has sentenced to four years after fraudulently driving away in one of these high-powered cars.

He committed major identity fraud to drive away in what many gearheads call one of the best cars to buy

People love their cars. After all, this is how most get around on a daily basis. Still, it’s easy to agree that vomiting identity fraud to get one isn’t the best decision. According to KRON 4, a man from Fairfield, California, used someone else social security number to finance a Dodge Challenger in 2018. The lender approved the loan, which amounted to $75,754.

However, the man didn’t get away with the case of identity fraud as he pleaded guilty to one count of bank fraud and aggravated identity theft in May of 2024. He was supposed to be sentenced in October but failed to attend his court date. The police then arrested the man in November, and he remained in jail until his new sentencing date of January 30th.

Now, the man has four years in prison for the instance of identity fraud. Additionally, he must pay $36,205.81 in restitution. Leading up to this, multiple California agencies investigated the situation before seizing the vehicle. This includes the California Highway Patrol, the U.S. Secret Service, and the Solano County Sheriff’s Office.
