Thieves successfully steal 100,000 eggs from semi-truck
The Pennsylvania State Police are on the hunt for egg thieves. According to DC News Now, the suspects allegedly stole 100,000 eggs from the back of a tractor-trailer.
The incident occurred at Pete & Jerry’s Organics in the Antrim township around 9:40 PM on February 1. The retail value of the stolen eggs is $40,000.
To make matters worse, the cops have no leads. It’s unclear how many suspects were involved in taking the eggs from the back of the semi-truck.
There is an ongoing investigation into the theft as investigators try to crack the case. All yolks aside, the police are urging anyone with related information to call the Chambersburg bureau at 7171-264-5161.
Pete and Jerry’s Organics work with 200 independent, family owned and operated farms. The business has been around since the early 1980s and has been setting a higher standard for farming practices and animal care.
The theft comes as bird flu outbreaks across the country have been killing egg producing chickens. Inventory loss is causing prices to sky rocket.
The cost is being passed to consumers. For example, Waffle House is adding a 50-cent surcharge to every egg that’s ordered to offset the dramatic price increases.
With Easter on the way, prices will continue to increase. The holiday brings the highest demand for eggs of the year.
