An alleged burglar led police officers directly to his location after calling 911 about his missing truck.
Imagine going outside to discover that your beloved truck is just gone. You would probably call 911 to submit a stolen vehicle report. However, one thief in Colorado called 911 after his Ram 1500 was seized as evidence, and ended up getting arrested.
Alleged thief calls 911 after cops take his truck
An alleged thief realized that his truck was missing so he immediately called 911 about it. However, this provided Douglas County police officers with his location, and the man was quickly arrested.
According to the Tri-City Herald, officers responded to reports of a man stealing lumber with a Ram 1500 from a home under construction in Castle Rock, about 30 minutes south of Denver, Colorado.
Onlookers yelled at the man around midnight, and he went inside the home. Police officers searched for him with a drone and K-9, but he escaped.
Meanwhile, his truck was still parked at the home. Officers towed it as evidence after reporting an inventory of its contents, including illegal drugs.
When the alleged thief returned to the scene and realized his truck was gone, he called 911 around 4:30 AM. All he wanted was to figure out what happened to his Ram 1500.
He made the mistake of telling the dispatchers his location, allowing deputies to arrive on the scene quickly. Police officers arrested him without incident on charges of burglary, theft, trespassing, and possession of drugs.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office joked that you can’t make this stuff up. The burglar basically called the cops on himself.
The man’s information hasn’t been released as there is an ongoing investigation into the incident. However, now he might not be able to drive his beloved Ram 1500 for a long time.
