It’s best to call the police if someone tries to steal your vehicle.
Most people can say that they have a certain number of valuable possessions. These can be simple things. However, for many, among them is the vehicle they use to get from point A to B. Because of this, car theft is a massive fear for several owners. Recently, one man in Oregon lost his life while trying to protect his beloved Kia SUV from a thief, and the suspect is still at large.
Car theft impacts society in several notable ways
Sadly, car theft can happen at any time, day or night. Despite this, this crime often occurs in the weary hours of the night leading into the morning. According to The Seattle Times, a man in Renton, Washington, became a victim at around 3:45 a.m. on February 1st. He had apparently spotted someone breaking into his 2019 Kia Sorento. The man not only saw the robbery in progress, but he tried to stop it.
Things worsened when the car theft suspect decided to drive off, dragging the victim along with him. The report says that the 35-year-old victim somehow held on to the driver’s side window of the vehicle. Unfortunately, this led to the suspect shooting the Kia owner. Local police later located the stolen Kia SUV and the car belonging to the suspect. However, the perpetrators are still at large. Notably, there were several other cars targeted by who law enforcement believes to be the same people.
To find the car theft suspects, the police are examining their vehicle for any evidence that could point them toward the people involved. The Renton Police Department is handling the investigation.
