‘No Kill’ animal shelter in New Jersey overwhelmed by $100,000 in donations to ‘keep the heat on’

Earlier this week, the Ramapo-Bergen Animal Refuge, a no-kill animal shelter in Oakland, New Jersey, asked for the public’s help raising money to keep the heat on in order to keep the pets in the shelter warm and safe. The old heating system had recently stopped working, and the shelter needed $15,000 to replace the heating unit.

In an Instagram post, titled “Warmth for the Animals: Help Us Keep Our Doors Open,” the organization asked the public and their supporters for help raising the needed funds.

What happened in just a few days was overwhelming, but so much appreciated. Donations started to flood in. Thanks to the kindness and support of generous people, the fundraising goal for their heating system far exceeded their goal. Now the pets will be warm and more lives with urgent medical needs can be rescued.

Any donations raised in excess of the amount needed to replace the heating system will go directly to their medical fund, which is dedicated to covering the medical expenses of animals in need.

Your contributions are already making a difference in the lives of animals like Cali, a sweet 4-year-old French Bulldog who has lost the use of her back legs. With your help, she’s been fitted for a wheelchair and will soon begin physical therapy, giving her hope for a brighter future. Cali is a happy, playful pup who is currently staying at the shelter and seeking a foster home.

Cali has been through a heartbreaking injury but still has so much love to give. Cali recently lost the use of her back legs, and by the time she came to us, her paralysis had progressed too far for surgery. While she’s unlikely to regain full function, Cali remains hopeful—and so are we!

Cali has been fitted for a wheelchair and started physical therapy to help improve her condition. She’s also incontinent and will need her bladder expressed (which is easy to learn). Cali is currently at the shelter, but a kennel is no place for this sweet girl who craves constant, devoted care.

Can you open your heart and home to Cali? Apply at rbari.org to help this sweet girl get the love she deserves.

Your support has made it possible for the shelter to continue to save lives, provide care, and give hope to those who have nowhere else to turn. Together, we are ensuring that RBARI remains a place of warmth, comfort, and second chances.
