New technologies come with new complications to think about. Wireless automatic “Bluetooth” pairing between phones and remote speakers–or even car speakers–has embarrassed multiple folks. One is a teenager who decided to watch some NSFW videos in his room, only to find out his phone was connected to the family car’s infotainment system…which his sister had started and was about to drive away.
On Reddit, the 18-year-old said he was in his room. And thought he was alone. He even put in his earbuds. But when he started a video, “there was no sound, little did I know that my sister was in the car and my phone was connected. So I turned the volume up until I saw that 3 devices was connected to my phone; my watch, earbuds and the car.” Yikes!
He reacted to the car Bluetooth incident quickly. “I immediately stopped the video and disconnected from the car. I don’t know if the audio played but it most likely did.” One major clue was that the sister, ” sat in the driveway for like 5 minutes” after starting the car. It was almost like she was trying to troubleshoot some…technical difficulty with the vehicle.
So what happened to the scarred teenager? He said that later his sister, “came home and didn’t seem off or mention it, I think it will be fine.”
To deny or apologize after car Bluetooth embarrassment?
When he posted the story on Reddit, he got some hilarious responses. And decent suggestions. One user wrote, “If she asks, just tell her that you’re trying to prank her and move on.” That’s an ingenious twist. Another user even added, “Yep, do it again with some other type of weird audio. When she comes asking, just laugh and tell you are pranking her.”
Another user suggested denying the entire car Bluetooth incident, “Admit nothing. Can she prove it was your phone? Maybe the pervert neighbors bluetooth somehow connected. Deny and lie, the burden of proof is on them.” But unfortunately, she may have proof whose phone was connected. Another user explained, “some cars will say something like “
A more wholesome response was, “Figure a way to simply apologize to her when alone with her.” You can see the Reddit post embedded below:

The original poster can at least take heart in the fact that he’s not alone: One commenter said, “Seen this ‘story’ at least three times in this subreddit now.” Two years ago another Redditor posted a very similar story. But instead of a sibling, his wife and kids were sitting in the car in the driveway. That might be even more embarrassing. I doubt either of those Redditors will ever forget to check their Bluetooth connections again!
