The decision to restore a classic vehicle isn’t uncommon. Some people do it themselves, whereas others enlist the help of auto mechanics to make an older vehicle feel like new with car modifications. Recently, a man in Oklahoma shared his story of paying an arm and a leg for car restoration on a classic Ford truck without getting the finished product.
Many experienced auto mechanics and shops specialize in car restoration
Car restoration is expensive, and there is no denying that. Many people have to save up before making the necessary car modifications. Sadly, this also means vehicle owners have to find auto mechanics that they trust. According to KFOR, a man in Oklahoma, Tim Hayes, decided to buy a classic Ford truck for his son as a birthday present.
For context, his son was 14 when he bought the 1967 Ford truck, and he wanted to have the car restoration complete by the time he turned 16. He took the vehicle to Classic Corner Iconic Cars in Oklahoma City to do this. According to Mr. Hayes, “We just we just wanted them to go through, clean the motor up, clean the transmission up, make it make it look like a nice, nice, remodeled truck.”
In the beginning, they told the man they’d have the car restoration done by July. However, that time came and went, and he has now spent about $115,000 with the shop. The man added, “They ripped it down to nothing on it and everything and just sat on it and then kept saying, oh we’re waiting on pass and we’re waiting on this and that. My son’s birthday is February 15th of this year. And he needs a truck.”
Regarding what he has paid for the car restoration, Tim says the shop sends new invoices every couple of months. Additionally, the shop threatened Title 42 for the classic Ford truck if he didn’t pay. This means they could take ownership of it. Finally, he decided to just take the unfinished truck, which the shop required him to pay $12,000 for. They also tried to force the man to sign a non-disclosure agreement. Regarding the shop, they say the man has no legal recourse due to their contract and his paying the invoices.
