If there is something up for debate, some one will argue about it. Even seemingly cut-and-dry car crashes.
A dash cam video of a dramatic rollover car crash has sparked intense debate among viewers, with opinions divided on who is truly at fault. Granted, the dash cam footage captures a driver jumping out into traffic around a turning SUV. However, the camera car’s brazen overtake has some self-proclaimed driving experts passing the blame.
A dash cam captured a devastating and rapid rollover car crash but the internet won’t agree on who is at fault
A dash cam can be an effective tool when dealing with the police and insurance. In theory, the footage can help adjusters overturn a decision and save the day in a debate about fault following a crash. However, sometimes the camera footage is a source of controversy.
For instance, a recent dash cam video shows a car crash on a four-lane public road. In the video, a driver with a dash cam goes to overtake a Mercedes-Benz SUV. The SUV is slowing to turn right onto a smaller street. The camera car driver, impatient with the slowed pace, moves to overtake the Mercedes-Benz SUV in the left lane.
However, a Kia Sportage pulls out into the path of the overtaking vehicle. With no time to stop, the camera car slams into the Kia, impacting its driver’s side doors. The hit causes the Sportage to roll over onto its side. At a glance, it appears that the Kia neglected to wait for a sufficient opening and pulled into the path of the camera car.
Still, even with dash cam footage of the car crash, comment section warriors debated fault. Understandably, some drivers took the side of the recording vehicle. “If you can’t see both lanes, you don’t turn.” Another commenter replied, “The amount of people trying to place any type of blame on the cam car is absolutely astounding to me.
On the other hand, one viewer responded, ”Are you serious??? A lane change and going fast like that?” In their defense, the camera driver did make the move rather abruptly and presumably out of impatience. Another commenter replied, “I put some blame on the cam driver. Never speed around a car that’s turning. You never know what’s at that corner.”
While that viewer is wrong to assign blame to the camera car, their message isn’t. Blame and fault have little impact on the survivability of a car crash. Every driver should proactively expect other motorists to make poor decisions.
