Lifting his beloved Toyota backfired for this owner.
There are several options out there for people who are considering car modifications. Of course, those with a truck often consider lifting it. As far as mods for cars go, this is one of the most popular among truck drivers. However, it does have its drawbacks, as many auto mechanics will agree. Recently, a person with a Toyota Tacoma shared how his beloved truck changed after making the decision to lift it. Many people with Toyota vehicles do this, but there are things people considering it should know.
Lifting a truck is a popular car modification, but it’s not always the best decision
Many car modifications can significantly improve an owner’s experience with their vehicle. However, some of them have drawbacks, and lifting a truck is one that carries some of these adverse side effects. Recently, Torque News reported on a man, Tom Bowman, who shared about his experience lifting his 2021 Toyota Tacoma. Notably, he posted in a Toyota Tacoma group on FaceBook.
He begins by saying that, like many Toyota vehicles, his 2021 Tacoma had pretty decent fuel economy. For him, he was getting 20-22 miles per gallon. The man went on to say that he lifted the truck two inches in the front and 1 inch in the rear. Additionally, he got bigger tires. After doing what many consider one of the most risky mods for cars, the man says he’s only getting 15 to 16 miles per gallon on average.
Like other car modifications, the man also says that lifting his truck has impacted the way the transmission behaves. Specifically, he says that it’s constantly downshifting. This is especially the case when he goes uphill as well as when he uses cruise control. In the end, he says that the truck “kinda sucks” and the highway after the modification. Still, he loves the way it looks.
There are many reasons why this and other car modifications like it impact vehicles so strongly. One of the most significant is that it throws off the aerodynamics of the vehicle. It also makes it heavier, which puts more stress on the various components. This is why it’s essential to research with auto mechanics before modifying a vehicle.
