This weekend had been busy days for rescuers Faith Easdale and Jim Ralston in Muscoy, California. On Saturday, while Jim had been trying to track down an injured shepherd running much too close to the freeway, he noticed a small dog grabbing bits of kibble he had left as food for the other dog. She would quickly snatch a few bits into her mouth and flee as quickly as she could.
And of course there’s more surprises to every rescue, since stray and abandoned dogs don’t come with one size fits all situations. What a surprise when Jim captured the adorable little fluffy puppy, and she still had been nursing puppies.
And the search began. He put the mom on a long slip lead, and let her do the rest.
she tried to go under a fence. we knew that’s where she went in and out for food.
Somehow this tiny dog had managed to survive for an entire year in the abandoned structure. Neighbors knew about the dog and confirmed she had been living amid the debris in the shed. And that’s where her babies had been born, and that is where she had been caring for them.
she had survived by eating scraps and cat food left out. She had been a good mom and took care of her puppies the best she could.
Neighbors permitted the rescuers go over their fences and rescue the puppies. They were well hidden behind the boards, and while clearing a path, one of the puppies ran away and hid. Jim found him hiding under different boards.
And then came the best part of the day. The dogs were exhausted but looked and acted as though they were genuinely relieved they had been found and rescue. It wasn’t long after the family was reunited that the mother dog began to nurse her puppies.
They are all safe, and this is why these rescuers do what they do!
AND not to forget about the German shepherd running precariously close to the freeway? He’s safe too!
