Mercedes owner demands a free new car over a tire pressure light, calling it a “lemon”

When people buy a brand-new car – especially one as expensive as a Mercedes – most expect it to work perfectly. And then continue to work perfectly, even after the first oil change. No one anticipates a warning light to appear on the dashboard just a week later. Well, that happened to a Mercedes C300 owner who called into a dealership irate after her new car had “all of the lights” on the dashboard lit up.

Jarred, a Mercedes salesman at a dealership in North Olmstead, Ohio, sold a Mercedes C300 to a woman named Anna. She called seven days later to demand the dealership do something about her “lemon” of a German luxury car. He posted the entire interaction on his TikTok (@AMGjarred).

“So, I have a problem,” said Anna, immediately putting Jarred into defense mode. “You sold me a lemon, and I need a new car. Like, and I mean like, replace this one with a new one because I don’t know why I would be driving around with a lemon. There’s too much going on with it, and I’m over it.”

He tries to explain to Anna that “lemon” is not a term used loosely in the industry and asks her what’s happening with the $63,000 car. She says “These lights are popping up on the dash,” and the car is “always doing something weird.”

The Mercedes owner said the “orange light” didn’t “look good”

Jarred tried to press her to explain what sorts of lights were on the dashboard, and Anna feverishly described the singular light to be “orange.”

“It’s an orange light, okay? And it doesn’t look good. It’s a little circle with an exclamation point, and it looks serious. It’s an exclamation — and that’s very serious, Jarred. I don’t want this car anymore. I need a refund or a new car, and I want it for free.”

She suggested getting an E-Class Mercedes instead. Before answering, viewers could see Jarred taking a deep breath and a brief pause before responding.

“Well, you’ve only had the car for a week, and that sounds like a tire pressure light,” he said delicately. “And it has been really cold, so that might not be the biggest deal, honestly.”

There was a long pause before she angrily responded that she didn’t appreciate being told a tire pressure light wasn’t a big deal. He diffused the impending explosive reaction by saying it was an easy fix, and she could either bring the car in for the fix, or a porter could pick up the car for her.

She apparently doesn’t like lemonade, and her tires would light up

“My tires are fine, Jarred, my tires look fine,” Anna said after another long pause. “It would be a light in the tires if it was a tire pressure warning, Jarred, don’t. It’s the car. It’s driving weird, it’s definitely a lemon, and I don’t like lemonade. I don’t want a lemon, I want a good car.”

After she told Jarred the weather doesn’t have anything to do with her tires, he explained to her that tires can lose a few pounds when the temperature drops. He said the tire pressure sensors are sensitive in Mercedes and can be triggered by a slight loss to alert drivers a tire lost some weight.

What she got out of that explanation was that something was wrong with the car.

“Well, uh, the car is doing its job perfectly, actually,” he said. He then offered to personally drive the car back to the service center to have the pressure adjusted and the light cleared for free. She agreed to it, but she threatened to speak to his manager if that “exclamation point” ever came on again.
