A family driving south on the 805 freeway near the 8 onramp in heavy rains were mostly unharmed after their car flipped and landed on its roof Sunday morning.
According to Onscene.Media, a grandfather, grandmother, father, and mother were able to get the three small children in the SUV out of the wreckage and to safety, all with only bumps and bruises.
The dramatic crash took place while the family was driving their SUV on the freeway amid a heavy sudden downpour. As they entered the downhill section of the 805 toward the onramp to the 8, several vehicles — including theirs — started to hydroplane and lose control.
The SUV spin out, left the roadway and went onto the right-shoulder embankment, and started to flip and roll before eventually landing on its roof in traffic lanes.
The California Highway Patrol shut down northbound lanes on the 805 to clear the crash and other spinouts.
As a result, impatient drivers started to go the wrong way on the various onramps to the city streets, OnScene reported.
