Oklahoma man crashes into an Air Force Base trying to escape police in a stolen car

An Air Force Base restricted access gate and checkpoint.

An Air Force Base fenceline seems like a poor substitute for a getaway plan.

If they’re motivated enough, criminals will do about anything to stay out of handcuffs. One common, seemingly futile thing they’ll do is run from the cops. It’s the sort of desperation that led an Oklahoma man and his passenger to crash through the fenceline of an Air Force Base while trying to lose their pursuers.

Highway patrol in Oklahoma chased a man and his cohort until they crashed through the fenceline at Tinker Air Force Base

A dash cam video from an Oklahoma Highway Patrol car shows a dark sedan speeding down a wide road. Police attempted to stop the car after receiving a report that it was stolen. However, when the highway patrol officers tried to stop the vehicle, the driver wouldn’t relent, leading to a high-speed chase.

It’s unclear what the runaway driver intended, but he seemed to misjudge the corner ahead. With a row of Jersey barriers on the right, the black sedan sailed past the corner. A moment later, the car speared over a barrier and crashed into a chain link fence. However, this wasn’t a fenceline belonging to a storage facility or a sports complex. No, this was a fenceline near one of the gates at Tinker Air Force Base.

The pursuing police officers stopped just shy of the crash. With spotlights illuminating the wrecked sedan, officers ordered the duo of car thieves to surrender and emerge with their hands held high. The driver obeyed, walking slowly toward the arresting officers. However, the passenger took off running over the broken fence.

However, the man’s time on the Air Force Base wasn’t lengthy. Oklahoma Highway Patrol says they arrested the second criminal shortly after the crash. Understandably, the United States Air Force (USAF) wouldn’t allow a car thief to slam through a fenceline and escape onto the installation.

Tinker Air Force Base is home to the 72nd Air Base Wing and tens of thousands of personnel. As such, USAF Security Forces wouldn’t take too kindly to a wanted car thief exploring the grounds. Check out the video of the crash below!
