See the truck models 4x more likely to hit 250k miles than the average vehicle
Most pickup buyers hope their truck will last a good long time. But it turns out not all truck brands are created equal. According to the iSeeCars study, vehicles built by Ram have an 11.5% chance of making it to 250,000 miles, which is 1.2x better than your average car or truck. Meanwhile the Ram 3500 has a 42.6% change of lasting 250,000 miles–putting it head-and-shoulders above other vehicle models. Read on for all the longest-lasting truck brands and pickup models.
iSeeCars study revealed the longest lasting vehicle brands

When the analysts at the iSeeCars looked through vehicle registration data, they found the average vehicle had an 8.6% chance of making it past 250,000 miles. But seven brands last longer than average.
Rank | Brand | % Chance of Lasting 250,000+ Miles | Compared to Average |
1 | Toyota | 17.0% | 1.8x |
2 | Honda | 13.6% | 1.4x |
3 | Ram | 11.5% | 1.2x |
4 | GMC | 11.4% | 1.2x |
5 | Chevrolet | 10.5% | 1.1x |
6 | Lexus | 9.7% | 1.0x |
7 | Ford | 9.5% | 1.0x |
Pickup truck fans will notice the rankings of the longest-lasting brands is almost a perfect inverse of the best-selling pickups. Of all the Detroit truck brands, Ram is by far the least popular. Here are the most popular pickup truck models in 2024:
Make / Model | 2024 U.S. Sales |
---|---|
Ford F-Series | 834,641 |
Chevrolet Silverado | 560,265 |
Ram Pickup | 373,118 |
GMC Sierra | 298,698 |
Toyota Tacoma | 192,813 |
What are the longest-lasting truck models?
There’s an obvious problem with this “longest-lasting brand” data. The average vehicles from GMC, Chevrolet, and Ford brands don’t last as long as vehicles from Ram. But those vehicles include sedans and crossovers. So who really builds the longest-lasting trucks? Luckily iSeeCars has also ranked the longest lasting vehicle models. And a Ram model again comes out on top.

Here’s how the 15 longest-lasting pickup trucks stack up. (I’ve combined results from both light-duty and heavy-duty 2024 studies into a single list). Note that though these truck models are ranked by longest-lasting, they all beat the 8.6% chance the average vehicle has of lasting to 250,000.
