The incident, which Kander described as a “real bummer,” left him shocked and confused about the origin of the costly blaze. While there were no injuries, the Kander family is heartbroken by the odd immolation of their beloved F-150 Raptor.

A former Missouri secretary of state is scratching his head and picking up the pieces of his favorite truck after a surprising fire. Jason Kander slid into his Ford F-150 Raptor in his Kansas City home’s driveway at around 9:00 a.m. “I got in the truck and turned it on, and smoke started coming through the vent,” Kander told The Kansas City Star.

He prudently turned the truck off. Unfortunately, it was too late. The military veteran noticed flames licking up from under the hood of the Baja-inspired pickup truck. Understandably, he wanted to save his beloved truck. “I ran inside, got the fire extinguisher, tried to put the fire out,” Jason Kander told the media.

Despite his efforts with the extinguisher, the fire raged on. By the time the fire department arrived to douse the flames, the Ford F-150 Raptor was no more. The Kander family had purchased the Raptor just three months before it went up in flames, making the loss sting that much more.

“My son and I truly, deeply loved this truck. It was a big deal that we got it. It’s the nicest material thing I’ve ever chosen.” It’s a sentiment car enthusiasts can identify all too well. Jason Kander’s wife, Diana, also posted about the puzzling fire. “We were concerned about it exploding. We called 911 and ran out of our house,” Diana posted on Instagram.

She seemed thankful that the blaze didn’t consume their home. “The fire department department got here just as our garage was starting to smoke,” Diana posted. “Their water tank was frozen, so it took them a few minutes to get the water going.” Fortunately, the firefighters were able to stop the inferno. But not before Kander lost his high-riding Raptor.
