More than 100 cars were left stranded in Atlanta after icy roads made driving too dangerous

Icy roads left many people in Atlanta unable to drive home and it forced them to spend the night in cars.

Many of the people have been rescued.

Everyone knows that driving in the snow is dangerous and should be avoided. However, there are situations where people may be forced to drive. Of course, many areas around the country are now dealing with icy roads, and Atlanta and the other regions of Georiga are not exempt. Because of this, several cars were recently left stranded due to the road conditions.

These drivers were left stranded because of the icy roads

Many parts of the country were unprepared for the recent winter weather that brought icy roads. Notably, this was the case through much of the South, including Atlanta and other parts of Georgia. According to Fox 5 Atlanta, many parts of the city were left “paralyzed” by the weather. Naturally, this means people were encouraged to stay off the roads, but this wasn’t possible for everyone, and some had to try driving in the snow.

Now, there are stranded and abandoned vehicles lining many of the icy roads in the city. Notably, the report says there are over 100 cars in this situation, with some drivers being forced to spend the night in their vehicles. There was also at least one MARTA bus left on the side of the road, unable to continue driving. Some people even found shelter at gas stations as the streets were too dangerous to get home.

DeKalb County has distributed more than 500 tons of salt and sand in response to the icy roads. However, officials are still warning that the streets are unsafe and that there is still ice. Additionally, some areas were too dangerous for them to distribute the salt and sand. Many of the people stranded have been rescued already. Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, CEO of DeKalb County, said, “We had over 200 stranded motorists that we’ve rescued in the past 24 hours.”
