People can be real jerks sometimes. But if a Reddit post by a user named “Angry Buyer” is true it might be the most blatant disrespect I’ve heard of in a minute. And let me tell you, it’s making me feel some kind of way.
Imagine your friendly UPS driver shows up with a package and asks you to sign. They ask what’s inside and you tell them. Then, after you’ve signed for the thing, they turn around and walk away. That’s right, stealing it right in front of your eyes. Oh the frustration! But this isn’t some absurd comedy movie, this is supposedly real life.
Back up to 2021. The PlayStation 5 had just come out and you couldn’t buy one anywhere. Well, one Redditor was desperate to give a PS5 to their beloved nephew. He searched the internet high and low, and what good fortune! “I was lucky enough to find a PS5 console for sale on eBay in December.”
Well, it was far away and Christmas was approaching, so he blew another $40 on UPS express delivery. That meant the driver would need a signature. That’s more secure anyway, right? Maybe not…
The eager buyer was waiting when UPS said they should expect delivery. Then the driver finally arrived. They opened with COVID restrictions: customers couldn’t sign for packages but she’d just enter their name. So far, so good.
While the driver entered the name, they chatted. The Redditor recalled, “She made small talk and said ‘you seem excited about this package.’ I said yes it’s a gift for my nephew. She asked what is it and I said it’s the new console for the PS. She said ‘what a lucky kid.’
Here’s the kicker, once the “transaction” was complete the delivery driver turned out to be an “un-delivery” driver.
“After writing my name, she picked up the package off the ground, turned around, and started walking back to the van. I thought she made a mistake so I yelled “excuse me” at her a couple of times, but she was obviously ignoring me. She just drove away and I was left standing there.”

This Redditor posted their experience to the r/legaladvice forum and got some great feedback. Commenters offered a range of solutions, from escalating with UPS to taking legal action. Some even had insider knowledge of how these companies operate.
One former UPS employee assured the buyer that the company tracks every package and delivery.
“Former ups employee for Christmas rush here. They definitely have a record of who was making deliveries that day. Everything, EVERYTHING, we did was tracked and accounted for by gps on trucks and on signer device. Keep pushing OP. Keep escalating. You’ll sort it out.”
UPS wouldn’t be able to brush this off if the buyer kept applying pressure. Every move the driver made was logged, and that data could prove what really happened.
Another commenter, who had worked in eBay customer support, suggested escalating the case with them.
“I am a former eBay Customer Support representative for many years. Escalate with eBay. They do have the power to help you out here. If you have a police report, including the report number and if you can get it, the badge ID of the officer you spoke to, eBay will generally refund you on this as a courtesy.”
This could be the easiest route to a refund. eBay has policies for stolen packages, and a police report might be enough to trigger a payout—without penalizing the seller.
“It is time to call the police. Treat it as anyone who stole something off your porch except you know who did it.”
A theft report would put official pressure on UPS. It could also be useful if the buyer needed evidence for a legal claim.
One lawyer took things a step further, recommending a lawsuit.
“I’m a lawyer in NJ. Find out the drivers’ name if you can and file a civil suit in small claims court against driver and UPS. If you can’t find out the name sue Jane Doe Driver and UPS in small claims. This will get you some immediate attention and a call from legal.”
Even if UPS was ignoring the case now, a lawsuit could change that fast. Companies often settle small claims quickly to avoid legal costs.
