For three years, an American bulldog blend named Taqui Taki, spent his days and nights with the most perfect human he ever could have known. The two would often spend afternoons playing at Miami’s Flamingo Dog Park. His dad, Leo would play fetch with him, bring tasty snacks and roll around together on the soft grass in the idyllic South Florida sunshine.
And then life changed. On November 3, 2024, the two had been in their apartment when Leo suddenly collapsed from a suspected heart attack. Taqui was so scared; he didn’t know what to do, so he did what his instincts told him; he cuddled up next to his ailing dad and tried his best to comfort him.
When help finally arrived, it was too late. Tragically Leo had passed away. Animal control officers arrived to take Taqui away, but the faithful dog didn’t want to leave his human’s side This person had been the dog’s whole world.
Sadly, no neighbors, relatives or friends ever stepped up to help.
And now Taqui is scheduled to be euthanized; the reasons – no one has come to adopt or foster him, and the shelter is overcrowded.
If this sweet boy could speak to us, this is likely what he would say:
I don’t understand. Why has my happy life turned into a nightmare? I’m a good boy with great manners. I get along with all dogs. But I’ve been here for a while now, and I’ve heard the heartbreaking truth—dogs like me, especially black dogs, don’t always make it out alive. I’m so scared & feel so alone in this cage help free me!
Please, can someone get this precious dog out of the shelter before it’s too late? He just needs a chance until a solution is found. He’s at the Miami shelter, waiting and hoping for a miracle.
