Speed plus alcohol equals one hell of a violent car crash.
Tennessee, police suspect a drunk driver was behind a dramatic 700-foot car crash that left a trail of destruction in its wake. The crash not only damaged several businesses but also took the suspect vehicle flying across a roundabout and into a building.
A possibly drunk driver flew through a Tennessee city square at 3:25 a.m., culminating with a violent car crash
A series of cameras caught an insane crash in the Tennessee city of Lebanon. At around 3:25 a.m., a silver sedan drove through the town at a “high rate of speed,” per the Lebanon Police Department (LPD). While the local PD was aware of the vehicle’s dangerous driving, they chose not to intervene at first for safety concerns.
The speeding sedan’s speed notwithstanding, weather conditions in the area left the roads slick and dangerous. A combination of slippery streets and the driver’s outrageous disregard for the speed limit was a recipe for disaster. Just as police were closing in to “stop the vehicle,” the car lost control and had a crash that covered over 700 feet of West Main Street.
The car zoomed past a series of stop signs and vaulted a decorative area in the middle of a roundabout. It came crashing down on the other side of the traffic circle and smashed through a fence in front of a building. By the time the sedan came to a rest, it had damaged multiple businesses.
Unsurprisingly, the LPD Traffic Unit said that speed was a “factor” in the crash. However, the police also believe that the driver may have been drunk at the time of the car crash. First responders transported both of the vehicle’s occupants to a nearby hospital for treatment.
A few viewers chose to joke at the silver sedan’s expense. One commenter said, “We all know this was just a failed attempt at ‘Back to the Future’.” Unfortunately, the speeding vehicle didn’t make the jump through time à la the DeLorean DMC-12 from the fan-favorite film.
Another viewer commented, “That’s not how you use a roundabout, sir.” Let’s face it; while it’s a quicker way to get across a roundabout, they’re not wrong. Another person jested, “Alcohol maybe, but definitely not speed.”
