Chula Vista police issued 19 citations during a six-hour weekend DUI/Driver’s License checkpoint.

Officers opened the checkpoint at 6 p.m. Friday and continued until midnight. More than 1,650 vehicles traveled through and 712 were screened by officials.

Officers conducted one field sobriety test on a driver and ticketed 13 motorists who were driving without a license or on suspended licenses.

Checkpoint locations are determined based on reported incidents of impaired driving-related crashes. The primary purpose is to promote public safety.

Funding for the checkpoint was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
