Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey is an animal lover, and his amazing rescue efforts and the number of convictions he has secured over the years against animal abusers make animal advocates just want to hug this man.
And then Sheriff Ivey describes another heartwarming rescue on January 13, when an animal advocate spotted an abandoned dog in the forest area near Mims. The dog was captured before deputies noticed she had recently given birth to a litter of puppies, but where were they?
The sheriff’s office went back to the spot where the mother dog had been first spotted, but finding her puppies seemed like an impossible task – that is until someone on the team came up with a plan based on technology. A cell phone was used to send out puppy sounds…
so everybody got real quiet, and they started playing the puppy sounds. and the puppies did exactly what they do all the time. they started whining, and we were able to find all of them.
When mother and her puppies were reunited, she immediately went to work nursing her eight tiny ones.

The mother dog will be receiving heartworm treatment and may have a tooth that needs to be removed. The puppies are expected to be transferred to an organization in Titusville where they will be made available for adoption.
Thank you again Sheriff Ivey.
