Spy shots show that the 2026 Subaru Outback is borrowing tech and hardware from Toyota.
Subaru fans should be excited for the new Outback because it’s getting upgraded with the help of Toyota. The 2026 Subaru Outback is being redesigned and spy shots captured a new interior design with Toyota hardware.
The 2026 Subaru Outback borrows from Toyota
First comes love, then comes marriage, and then comes Subaru and Toyota with another baby carriage. Over the past few years, Toyota and Subaru have been teaming up to collaborate with EVs.
Now the relationship has spread to sharing hybrid engines, features, hardware, and tech. The 2026 Subaru Outback is expected to be loaded with Toyota’s equipment.
Spy shots of the interior show two large screens. One is set behind the steering wheel and the other is part of a new infotainment system.
The housing for the infotainment system shows a large square screen with housing that features physical control knobs, identical to Toyota’s setup. It also features identical digital icons on the left side of the screen to Toyota’s Audio Multimedia system.
Critics have mentioned that the current Subaru 11.6-inch infotainment system is a bit frustrating. According to Edmunds, the lack of physical controls and complicated menu structure are distracting.

Android Auto is stuffed into the top half of the screen, leaving the bottom half useless. Also, the voice command system struggles to recognize basic commands. Edmunds also complained about the safety system having annoying beeping alerts.
The new tech should be more intuitive, advanced, faster, and less distracting. Along with new tech, the 2026 Subaru Outback will feature a redesigned interior and a new exterior style. Spy shots show a boxier, rugged look that strays away from the familiar wagon shape.
The next-generation Outback seems close to being production-ready. It could emerge soon in a matter of weeks to months. I bet it will also feature a hybrid engine from Toyota.
