At the Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA in Pine Grove, Pennsylvania, a senior Boxer named Houdini found his forever home just days before Christmas. For seven years, he patiently waited for the perfect family; it seemed he was a very selective pup who didn’t get along with other dogs which greatly limited his options.

According to the non profit animal rescue organization, Houdini had been a three-year-old stray when he arrived. He was soon adopted, but returned just days later. He had no problem being a love bug with his new human family, but that was only reserved for humans.
For years, the messages about Houdini had been shared on social media. The staff loved him and his sweet personality, and when would-be adopters arrived and just passed him by, his plight became even more heartbreaking.
One of our long-term residence Houdini, see the gray around his muzzle he has been here entirely too long. Such a sweet and loving boy he is a senior boxer mix who loves his walks and car rides. He also enjoys playing with toys, he loves to cuddle up, he is a nice dog.
Unfortunately when Houdini is in his kennel he gets very excited when people walk by, so he barks and he’s jumping, and honestly he’s just excited to see somebody.
He must be the only dog in the home.
And… so after 62,016 hours in 2584 days which equals 7 years Houdini had been waiting and asking Santa to see him and help him find a home for Christmas … IT WORKED!

A couple who had recently lost their 14-year-old pit bull had made the decision to adopt a dog who had been overlooked for much too long. They spotted Houdini’s photos on social media and decided to meet him. Just days later, Houdini had finally been adopted.

After 7 years of waiting, Houdini has finally left the building and found his forever home—just in time for Christmas! This is the ultimate gift, not just for Houdini, but for all of us here at Ruth Steinert Memorial SPCA.
Houdini has since made himself at home with the couple’s five children.
Watching him go home is a reminder that every animal has their day, no matter how long it takes. Thank you to everyone who supported Houdini throughout the years—you never gave up hope, and neither did he.
Houdini, enjoy your new life and all the love you so deeply deserve. We couldn’t be happier for you!
