In Beylikduzu, Istanbul, security camera footage captured a stray mother dog (on her own) holding her puppy in her mouth by the scruff of its neck, and walking towards the driveway of a local veterinarian’s office.
A veterinarian’s assistant spotted the video of the dog and went to the door. He carefully took the unconscious puppy from its mother as she followed him into the examining room. The puppy had been dying from hypothermia – slowing down its heart rate. Fortunately, the vet was able to warm the puppy sufficiently with a hair dryer and kept it at the clinic with the puppy’s mother by its side.
According to the video on Instagram, the puppy had been related to another puppy who had been previously brought to the same veterinarian, and at the time, it was thought the stray mother’s other puppies had not survived.
The puppy is currently being cared for at the clinic – the mother by its side.
The veterinarian owner had not expected this, but has been caring for the two:
we thought all of them had died. it turns out there was one sibling that survived. when our technician noticed the situation, he brought it inside. we realized the puppy’s heart was beating. we placed it in intensive care. it is currently continuing treatment with its sibling.
This mother dog’s actions saved her puppy’s life. Sometimes fact is just stranger than fiction.

In Istanbul, Turkey the government had a program to protect stray dogs, including providing food, water and veterinarian care. The city also worked to find homes for these dogs. Their main approach had been to sterilize, vaccinate and release stray dogs back where they were found.
Late 2024, however new law now dictates that stray be placed in shelters and if any dog poses a danger it should be euthanized immediately. The government states it is acting this way because of more dog attacks and the danger of rabies. Animal activists however fear dogs are being euthanized for no reason except that they don’t have a home.
