Heartfelt rescue of 2 tiny dogs abandoned in the mountains left to perish

Two tiny dogs, a Chihuahua and a Maltese blend had been abandoned in Lytle Creek which is located in the eastern part of the San Gabriel Mountains. Somehow the two had managed to survive; residents in the area had spotted them scavenging for food and hiding from predators since December.

Locals and rangers had spotted the two little dogs, and they had been feeding them.

On Tuesday, independent rescuer Cathi Perez headed out to Lytle Creek to meet Faith Easdale and Jim Ralston on another rescue mission. They had been searching for the two dogs on a previous trip accompanied by Patricia Hoyos, but were not able to locate them.

The day began on a positive note when Jim spotted both dogs near the end of the road. The rescuers set their humane traps.

Hours passed, and they spent the night waiting for the dogs to return. Instead they had trapped a few hungry foxes who were rather testy having been captured; one little fox tried to bite Faith’s foot, but fortunately she had been wearing steel toed shoes.

The dogs showed up at midnight!

They ate the food all around the traps and the food near the door only, then they ran off.

It had been a long and cold night with temperatures dipping below freezing, but at 7:00 a.m. the Maltese appeared, disappeared and then returned four hours later with the Chihuahua. The traps had been set side by side. Their vehicles had been parked far up the road as the dogs were very alert and very afraid.

And then came some action, but before the sighs of relief could be expelled, a vehicle went by. In full fear mode, the Maltese fled, but the Chihuahua was safely in the trap.

The rescuers then aligned the traps end to end with the Chihuahua in clear view to draw his Maltese friend back. Hours went by, and the Maltese still wasn’t anywhere to be seen.

Hours and hours later, and finally by 10:00 p.m. the Maltese returned, and this time he was trapped.

This was so long and hard but so worth it!!!

They both went home with Jim!

Finally they are safe, comfy and cozy!!!

Please support their rescue.
