Foster mom didn’t want to adopt another dog but fell in love with 3-legged Lola

At the Forsyth Humane Society in North Carolina, Lola arrived from Madison County after the devastation of Hurricane Helene in September 2024. The gentle senior pup was a tripod and had a huge tumor on her neck. Life must have been very hard for her in the past; she had lumps and bumps and suffered from severe periodontal disease. Still, she was the nicest dog who accepted her challenges.

Lola’s luck had finally changed. A woman had seen the social media post about the senior dog and decided she wanted to help. She already had two other senior dogs and hoped Lola would fit in.

I ended up emailing to say that if she simply needed a place to heal and get better (at the time I had no clue what her medical issues were) that I could still foster her if you all wanted me to because my mom lives on our property in her own little house so Lola could be in a home environment and not have to interact with our dogs.

The family admits they fell in love with Lola at first sight but had not wanted to adopt another dog. The community stepped forward to help with the expenses of the eight-year-old dog’s dental surgery as well as to remove tumors on her neck and eyelid; fortunately both had been benign.

The intention was to help Lola heal and then be ready to be adopted, but the family had already fallen in love with her. They adored the way she would cuddle, they adored her idiosyncrasies like making sure her humans stuck to the schedule and reveled how deep and well Lola could nap.

By this time she had been with us about 2 months. We simply felt like after everything she had been through already we didn’t want her to have to go through anymore change so we decided to ask her if she wanted to stay with us forever!!

We ADORE her and are so happy to have her as part of our pack!

And of course, Pet Rescue Report always likes to stress how wonderful it is to adopt a senior. These dogs don’t “sweat the small stuff.” Lola adjusted to her foster home and now to her forever home very quickly. She is absolutely great around everyone. It turns out she is also great with the other dogs, loves car rides, going for walks, cuddling and EATING!

Live long and happily ever after Lola. Many thanks to her foster mom for falling in love with her and adopting a senior.
