A man from Ensley, located in Escambia County, Florida lost his home to fire on Sunday night after a space heater malfunctioned. Two of his dogs succumbed to the tragic accident, and his remaining dog, a SharPei named Falcor has been fighting for his life.
Gene Carroll said it had been his five-year-old pitbull named Luna who had started to bark and woke him up when the flames started. As soon as Carroll realized what was happening, he tried to rescue the three dogs and a fourth dog he had been watching for his girlfriend. One dog he was able to lock in his truck to keep her safe, but as he tried to reenter his house, the two SharPeis- Falcor and Arlene, were trapped in their kennel.
Luna, died in the fire. She had been by the side of Carroll as he had been saving the other dogs, but the dog apparently lost track of her owner and ran back into the burning house to find him where she died.
Carroll suffered serious burns to his left hand trying to free his dogs from their kennels. The dogs were both badly burned and transferred to animal hospitals for emergency care.

According to the Coastal Sunrise Animal Hospital where Falcor and Arlene are being treated, Arlene died on Wednesday. Veterinarians and staff are doing everything they can to help Falcor.
Falcor faces a very extensive and expensive process, with many treatments and a long recovery. A friend of the family has started a GoFundMe for his care and to help with the cremation of Luna and Arlene.

You can also donate directly to Coastal Sunrise Animal Hospital by calling 850-476-0172. They are hopeful that Falcor can be successfully treated and make a full recovery, and he’s in the best hands.
Please know we have not shared the worst of the pictures. They are extremely graphic and he is very, very badly burned. He’s going to need a lot of help. Anything you feel led to donate will be greatly appreciated by the family who has lost so much.
Yesterday’s Update:
“We came by when they were swapping Falcor’s bandages so he was still under, but they said he’s doing so much better!! His back feet they weren’t too sure of before, but after a good soak they have their color back and are looking like he can keep them he’s on a steady drip for pain meds now also and has been a lot happier to see the staff than yesterday since he’s not hurting as bad with the drip. He’s also has a feeding tube as he hasn’t wanted to eat anything still. He’s fighting like a warrior! Please continue your shares and prayers, we appreciate you all so much!”
