An animal rescue organization in Stockton, California discovered a bald puppy at a homeless camp recently with writing all over her tiny body. Hungry Tailz Rescue told the story how volunteers at the organization had been feeding several pets at the location when one volunteer spotted the puppy in very poor health.

Although it was important to rescue the puppy, the homeless women at the encampment did their best to provide for the puppy when they barely could care for themselves.

The puppy was immediately brought to an emergency veterinarian hospital where she was diagnosed with Demodectic mange which had caused her hair to fall out. She received both oral flea and tick treatments as well as medicated baths to treat the mange.
Demodectic mange is caused by an overgrowth of microscopic mites that live in the hair follicles. Most cases that are localized in a small part of the puppy’s body often resolve itself within a month or two. Other cases can be treated with topical medications and soothing baths to relieve the itching and the irritated skin.
In addition to the mange, however the puppy dubbed Naya also had to be bathed to help remove the inked words “that someone cruelly drew all over her body and face.”
After her hospital stay, Naya needed a foster home to finish her rehabilitation. The rescue stressed how sweet the puppy was and had been through all of her treatments.
