In the Modjeska Canyon surrounded by the Cleveland National Forest, a young dog had survived a tantamount challenge of life and death. Where she came from had been a mystery. She frequently walked back and forth on the two-lane country road; maybe she had been looking for her owner? Not many cars passed by, and now in the midst of fire warnings for the entire area, what would have been the odds of anyone finding her?

There she was, surviving on her own, but what chances would she have with mountain lions, coyotes and bob cats all looking for easy prey? No one knows how long she had already been in survival mode, and no one knew how long she would have survived.

By now the winds had increased to 55 miles per hour, smoke could be seen over the horizon, and the residents anywhere in the area had already been on fire watch.
Once again, Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy 29, was called to help. The rescue mission had only been made possible by Hall’s friend Vicki and local residents Veronica Mitchell, Tanya Newell Morgan and her family, Teresa Jackson and Russell who stood by everyone to help save this dog’s life.

The weather conditions had been daunting.
But I wasn’t giving up on her
She wasn’t giving up either
Residents of the community would see her on this place called the grade
She would go back to a little turn about and sit there
I know that’s where they dumped her.
Whenever anyone would try to help the dog, she would run away. For four days, from early mornings to late nights, cameras had been videoing and traps had been set. The women hiked up the hill to look for her and found blood, but they weren’t giving up! That had been on Sunday, and no one had seen her. Everyone worried, but by Monday morning, she was spotted running up the grade to her “spot” where she most likely had been abandoned.
If anyone tried to help her, she would just run for her life. And so once again Suzette set the trap. The winds were strong, and everyone took shifts watching the trap.
No sooner had the midnight shift person arrived, the call came in – the dog was safely in the trap.

Suzette hurried back to the location; the winds were so strong her car shook, but she was so grateful and relieved.

This morning the dog was rushed to Hall’s partner veterinarian because her paws were bleeding. Emergency surgery was done to alleviate the pain and repair her injuries.
She was safe!
