WPBN: When it comes to Big Y pharmacies in Connecticut, Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield has decided to withdraw their coverage.
In addition, a family in Marlborough has reported that they are purchasing their medications from a pharmacy located outside of the town rather than patronizing the one and only pharmacy in their neighborhood.
When Robin Greenwald received a letter from Anthem, she was displeased with the situation.
“This is something that’s never happened before,” Greenwald stated.
It is stated in the letter that she gave to us that the Big Y Pharmacy in Marlborough would no longer be a part of the network that the plan provides for the family as of the first of the year.
“It’s kind of frustrating. And it’s not that easy to move prescriptions from one pharmacy to the next,” Anna Greenwald, of Marlborough, stated.
Anthem has issued a statement stating that Big Y is no longer a part of their network in the state of Connecticut.
“We regularly evaluate our pharmacy networks with the goal of maintaining affordable access to care for employers, plans, and members, while ensuring members have convenient access to high-quality pharmacies,” according to the statement.
The Greenwalds mentioned that the Big Y is the only pharmacy in their town, and Anthem included the following in the letter that they received along with the following:
“You still have plenty of choices available. For your convenience, the list on the right will help you find pharmacies that are in your plan’s network and close to where you live.”
In East Hampton, there are a number of pharmacies that are listed. It is a Walgreens that has recently closed its doors, and there is a sign that recommends that customers go to the store in Portland.

Nevertheless, even the pharmacies that are still located in East Hampton are still located a considerable distance from Marlborough City.
“It’s about 20 minutes out of the way, you know, there and back. So first world problems. But when we’ve got a dependable pharmacy right here that’s given us good service, we want to continue to use them,” Robin Greenwald stated.
