WPBN: At the same time that the unrelenting Eaton Fire continues its destructive sweep over the area, a beloved institution that had been in Altadena for nearly three decades was sadly destroyed on Wednesday.
The Bunny Museum, which was famed for its collection of approximately 50,000 artifacts with a bunny theme and was celebrated as “the world’s only museum about everything bunny,” was one of the many things that was destroyed in the catastrophic fire.
At least five individuals have lost their lives as a result of the fire, which began on Tuesday evening and has already destroyed more than 10,000 acres of land.
“All of the Old Town, the iconic Altadena Old Town, is gone,” Steve Lubanski, the co-owner of the museum stated. “Our museum is gone. That’ll hit me in a while.”
In spite of the fact that he was able to preserve their pets and a few valuable things, Steve Lubanski, who is also the co-owner of the Bunny Museum, revealed that the majority of their collection, in addition to the building itself, was completely destroyed by the fire.
It was discovered in a touching message that was shared on the Facebook page of the museum that Lubanski had spent the entirety of Tuesday night at the scene, bravely hosing down the cherished structure in an effort to protect it from the growing fire.
“It was, it took my wife and I almost 40 years to put it together, but the way it is … it will still go on,” Lubanski stated.
Unfortunately, when the structure that was close to the fire succumbed to the blaze, the flames spread at a startling rate, leaving little room for any rescue efforts.
There is video footage that was taken on Wednesday that shows the museum, which is situated at the crossroads of Lake Avenue and Altadena Drive, being consumed by fire.

Additionally, the flames extended to a large hedge that was formed like a rabbit. This amusing feature had been a sign of the museum’s appeal, but it was destroyed by the fire.
The destructive power of the fire is highlighted by the fact that other buildings that have already been reduced to rubble can be seen in the backdrop of the footage.
