La Crosse, WI – Residents across western Wisconsin are bracing for another round of bitterly cold weather as temperatures continue to run 5 to 10 degrees below early January norms. Dry conditions will persist, offering little relief to those already grappling with the chilly start to the new year.
According to the National Weather Service, La Crosse will see daytime highs near 14 degrees on Sunday, with lows plunging to 8 degrees by nightfall. Wind chills could dip to -4, so bundle up if heading outdoors. Monday offers a slightly milder high of 22 degrees, though overnight lows will drop to around 8.
This cold pattern will persist through midweek, with Tuesday and Wednesday highs ranging from 16 to 23 degrees and lows consistently in the single digits. Winds will stay light, easing the impact of the cold but doing little to improve temperatures.
Local highways, such as I-90 and U.S. 53, may see frost buildup during the early mornings, creating slippery conditions. Travelers are encouraged to monitor pavement conditions and allow extra time for commutes. Pedestrians should also watch for icy sidewalks, especially in shaded areas.
The National Weather Service forecasts a slight warming trend by Thursday, with highs climbing to 27 degrees under mostly sunny skies. While this isn’t a major thaw, it offers some respite as residents look ahead to the next weekend.
