INDIANAPOLIS, IN – A powerful winter storm is moving through Indiana, bringing heavy snowfall and freezing conditions to central parts of the state. Snowfall totals could exceed 11 inches in some areas south of the I-70 corridor by Monday evening, with the potential for widespread travel disruptions.
According to the National Weather Service, a winter storm warning is in effect until 7 p.m. Monday. Snow started accumulating since Sunday afternoon, with heavy snowfall expected tonight. In some areas, especially south of I-70, up to an inch of sleet mixed with snow could accumulate, making roads especially dangerous. Drivers are urged to avoid unnecessary travel and prepare for possible delays and road closures.
High-impact conditions are expected Sunday night into Monday morning, with blowing snow reducing visibility and winds reaching 32 mph. Temperatures will hover around 22 degrees overnight and drop to 10 degrees by Monday night, increasing the risk of icy roads.
Looking ahead, snowfall is likely to reduce on Monday evening, leading to partly cloudy and cold conditions. The weather will be a little clear on Tuesday, the maximum temperature will be around 21 degrees, but the cold will continue till Wednesday and the minimum temperature will drop to 4 degrees at night.
Residents are encouraged to monitor updates from the National Weather Service and check local road conditions before heading out. Preparations like stocking up on essential items and charging devices are advised in case the storm advances.
