DAYTON, Ohio (WKEF) A strong low pressure system moving through the region Sunday into Monday will bring the potential for heavy snow, sleet, and ice into the Miami Valley. This storm system has prompted the First Warning Weather Team to issue a Code Red Weather alert for Sunday night into Monday.
Saturday will be bitter cold early with sunshine and highs in the middle 20s.
A winter storm will be tracking across the Plains and into the Ohio Valley region Sunday into Monday.
At the present time, heavy snow including several inches of snow and/or wintry mix including freezing rain and ice are possible.
The biggest impacts are likely south of I-70 but there are still some uncertainties in the exact track of the low pressure system, which could significantly change snow amounts and/or icing potential.
As of now, we want to be prepared for the potential for dangerous travel including icy roads, low visibility and or significant accumulation of snow.
This could not only impact the Dayton Metro area, but also Cincinnati and northern Kentucky.
Once the snow moves out, bitterly cold air then moves into the Miami Valley.
Highs in the teens are expected on Wednesday with lows in the single digits — perhaps even below zero.
