The Met Office has extended its weather warnings for snow across York and North Yorkshire.
Heavy snow has hit the region following an amber weather alert for snow and ice. The warning, which was set to last until midnight today, has now been extended.
A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued until midday tomorrow (Monday, January 6).
In the warning, the Met Office said there will be “further snow in places, along with icy stretches, leading to some disruption, especially to travel.”
They added: “Some roads and railways affected with longer journey times by road, bus and train services. Icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths. Some injuries from slips and falls on icy surfaces.”
Today’s snowfall has already led to major disruption on the railways, with train companies urging passengers not to travel. Elsewhere, popular attractions such as Castle Howard and Carlton Towers have announced their closure due to the weather.
