Burlington, VT – Snow showers will continue to build across Vermont this week, creating potentially hazardous travel conditions on key roads. A 40 to 50 percent chance of snow showers remains in the forecast through Thursday, with accumulation expected to reach up to 2 inches by Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS), today’s snow accumulation will stay under a half-inch. However, Monday night into Tuesday will bring higher snowfall, particularly in areas near the Tug Hill Plateau. Gusty northwest winds reaching up to 30 mph will further complicate conditions, particularly on US Route 2 and Interstate 89.
Temperatures will remain frigid, with highs only reaching the low 20s through Thursday and wind chills dropping below zero at night. Blustery conditions will persist midweek, with Wednesday and Thursday both seeing gusts of up to 20 mph. The NWS has warned drivers to prepare for slippery roads, reduced visibility, and delays.
Vermonters are advised to monitor local forecasts and allow extra travel time, especially during morning commutes. While there are no major storms in the forecast, the gradual accumulation of snow over several days may still create hazardous conditions.
Looking ahead to the weekend, temperatures are expected to stabilize slightly, with highs near 25°F and reduced wind speeds. Snow showers remain a possibility, but less frequent. Residents should remain cautious and check updates for any changing conditions.
