Albany, NY – Lake effect snow and icy conditions persist across the Mohawk Valley and southern Adirondacks today, creating hazardous travel conditions. An additional 2 to 5 inches of snow is forecast for impacted areas through this afternoon. Temperatures will remain frigid, with highs in the 20s to lower 30s and wind chills making it feel even colder.
According to the National Weather Service, Winter Weather Advisories remain in effect until 4 p.m. Sunday. Drivers along Route 28 and I-90 should be cautious of slick roads and reduced visibility due to snow squalls. Gusty winds, reaching up to 26 mph, are expected to worsen conditions.
Tonight, temperatures will plummet to the teens, with mostly cloudy skies across Rensselaer, Albany, and surrounding regions. Monday brings a temporary break in precipitation, with mostly cloudy skies and highs around 23°F. Northwest winds will add a biting chill to the air, making it feel significantly colder.
Looking ahead, Tuesday introduces a brief warm-up to near 29°F, though conditions will remain windy and blustery. By Wednesday, expect partly sunny skies and highs around 21°F, with lows dropping to a bitter 12°F at night.
