CHEYENNE, WY – Residents of the Nebraska Panhandle and southeastern Wyoming should prepare for difficult and dangerous road conditions Monday morning as a winter weather advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. MST. Forecasters expect total snowfall between 2 to 4 inches, with icy conditions likely on bridges and overpasses.
According to the National Weather Service, snowfall began overnight and will continue through the morning. Low visibility is expected, leading to dangerous driving conditions. Authorities have urged drivers to reduce speed and maintain a safe distance from other vehicles. Travelers can check updated road conditions by calling 511.
The five-day forecast suggests some respite from snow on Tuesday, but temperatures will remain near or below zero, increasing the chance of icy surfaces. Additional precipitation is expected midweek, with a mix of snow and rain possible on Wednesday.
Residents are reminded to clear driveways and sidewalks to avoid slips and falls. Those venturing out should wear sturdy shoes and use caution on icy steps and walkways.
For those in the Sierra Madre and Snowy Mountains, heavy snow accumulations of 6 to 12 inches are expected, along with winds gusts up to 35 mph. Outdoor recreationists are advised to be prepared for the dangers of low visibility and cold weather.
