Nashville, TN – A winter weather advisory remains in effect for Middle Tennessee today, with freezing rain creating treacherous road conditions. Ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch are expected, impacting both urban and rural areas, including Nashville, Clarksville, and Cookeville.
According to the National Weather Service, the advisory will remain in place until 6 p.m. Drivers are urged to use caution and reduce speed, especially on interstates like I-24, I-40, and I-65, where icy patches may form on bridges and overpasses. Temperatures are forecast to hover near freezing, heightening the risk of slick conditions.
Road conditions are expected to worsen during the morning hours, with potential delays for commuters. Officials are advising residents to check local road updates by calling 511 and avoid unnecessary travel if possible. Power outages are also possible due to ice accumulation on power lines.
Looking ahead, temperatures will rise slightly on Monday, transitioning the freezing rain to light rain showers by midday. However, overnight lows could refreeze any standing water, prolonging hazardous conditions through Tuesday morning.
The extended forecast shows a break in precipitation Tuesday and Wednesday, with highs climbing into the mid-40s. However, colder air returns by Thursday, bringing another chance for wintry weather.
