Memphis, TN – Residents across West Tennessee should prepare for icy roads and possible travel delays as a Winter Weather Advisory begins at 6 p.m. Sunday. The National Weather Service (NWS) is predicting a mix of snow and freezing rain that will create hazardous driving conditions overnight and into Monday morning.
According to the NWS, snow accumulations could reach up to half an inch, with ice creating a light glaze on roads. The advisory, covering areas including Memphis, Jackson, and Union City, remains in effect until noon Monday. The wintry weather is expected to impact key roadways such as I-40, I-240, and Highway 51 during peak commuting hours.
Officials urge residents to slow down, allow extra time for travel, and check road conditions before heading out. Tennessee’s 511 travel service provides real-time updates on road closures and conditions.
Sunday night’s low is expected to dip to 26°F, with gusty winds making conditions feel colder. Monday will stay chilly, with highs around 33°F and patchy ice lingering into the afternoon.
Drivers are encouraged to stay cautious, avoid unnecessary travel, and keep emergency supplies in their vehicles.
