Boston, MA – Residents across Massachusetts are preparing for dangerously cold conditions as powerful northwesterly winds drop temperatures below zero. Expect wind chills to feel as low as the teens and single digits, especially in the morning.
Northwest winds of 25 to 35 mph will continue through Monday, with gusts up to 40 mph, according to the National Weather Service. These winds will push apparent temperatures well below their predicted high, which will hover around 31 degrees on Monday and Tuesday. Travelers are urged to wear layers and limit time outside during the early hours of the day.
Monday will be partly sunny, but winds will be 15 to 20 mph, making for a bitterly cold day. Night temperatures are expected to drop with the coldest winds blowing from late Monday night to Tuesday morning. Drivers should use extra caution, especially on open roads like I-93 and Route 128, where high winds can affect visibility and vehicle stability.
There will be a slight improvement in the weather in the middle of the week, on Wednesday it will be sunny and the winds will remain calm. The maximum temperature is expected to reach 29 degrees, but it will still feel quite cold as the winds will blow for a long time. By Friday, temperatures are expected to reach near the upper 30s, which will provide some relief as the weekend approaches.
Residents are encouraged to check on vulnerable neighbors and provide adequate shelter for pets. For the latest updates, follow the National Weather Service’s forecasts and advisories.
