Baltimore, MD – A Winter Storm Watch remains in effect for central Maryland through late Monday night, bringing heavy snow and icy conditions. The National Weather Service (NWS) predicts total snow accumulations of 5 inches or more, with localized areas possibly receiving up to 10 inches.
According to the NWS, snow is expected to begin Sunday night after 10 p.m., intensifying Monday morning. Ice accumulations up to one-tenth of an inch may worsen conditions, creating hazardous roads, particularly along I-70 and I-695. Residents are urged to avoid unnecessary travel during the storm and prepare for delays during Monday’s morning and evening commutes.
On Monday, snow is forecast to continue throughout the day with highs near 28°F and winds reaching 9 mph. Travel could become treacherous, with visibility reduced during periods of heavy snow. Officials recommend keeping emergency supplies in vehicles, including blankets, food, and water, in case of roadside emergencies.
After the storm subsides Monday night, temperatures will drop further, with lows around 22°F. Tuesday offers some relief with sunny skies and a high near 33°F, but icy patches may linger on roadways. The rest of the week is expected to remain cold, with highs in the low to mid-30s.
Residents should monitor weather.gov for updates and be prepared for potential power outages caused by ice accumulation. Stay informed by tuning into local weather stations for the latest developments.
